Since 2002, Al-Taqwa Secondary School was established for the Canadian Muslim teenager in mind.
Al-Taqwa Secondary School is inspected and issued a BSID number by the Ontario Ministry of Education as a private school and the school has the authority to grant credits toward the Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
Our students are able to fast track their Grades 9-12 courses and graduate in only 3 years. Taqwa Fast Track in 3 years is an option for all students that begin in Al-Taqwa in Grade 9; students may also choose to finish in 4 years of secondary school.
We offer our students five credits a semester which assists in course selection and completion to all students at any stage of their secondary school education if needed. Our schedules are catered to our students to ensure that students have the courses they need to succeed.
All of our graduates that have completed Taqwa Fast Track received a 100% acceptance rate to Universities and Colleges locally and all over the world and have graduated from their post-secondary education with distinction in their fields.
Since the beginning in September 2002, we aimed to create a Canadian Islamic Secondary School experience exceeding the most current provincial curriculum, but went beyond to provide its students a broadened horizon with an Islamic environment. With a small teacher to student ratio the emphasis is focused solely on the student. Al-Taqwa is a place where students can be themselves, practice and enhance their faith, excel in academics, and prepare for a 100% acceptance in universities and colleges- and of course, have a great time! Who said you can’t do it all?
Students come together to contribute to a family of different cultures and interests. Students begin their day with prayers and praise of Allah and then embark on a whole day of learning. Character development and leadership is implemented in activities and daily programs through our activities, culture days, sleepovers, competitions and more. Furthermore, through instruction and interaction we encourage students to follow their interests and cultivate their own educational journey using the resources and assistance available within the school and community. At Al-Taqwa, we encourage students to get involved in athletics, clubs, competitions, and activism to create a well-rounded educational and memorable life experiences.
Students join gender specific weekly sessions that discuss life, religion and beyond. A setting that is bias free and open to discussion and fun. The topics vary upon what is trending in society life and more. This is an open forum for students to discuss and learn about the topics that matter to them. Students can participate through discussion or anonymous contribution of questions or topics.
Al-Taqwa’s students have won numerous awards and excelled in competitions. At Al-Taqwa we encourage students to compete against other students and schools to practice their skills and knowledge. Not only do our students excel year after year at the London District Science Fair, in 2014 Al-Taqwa students won 60% of all awards distributed city wide. Students have also won awards in University of Waterloo Gauss Math and Computer Competitions, Polar Expressions Poetry and Short Story contests, NAMF Speech Competitions, and much more!
Our students have had the opportunity to explore the world while learning about our faith and history. The students traveled to organized trips around the world over the last few years. Trips to Umrah in Saudi Arabia, visiting the Pyramids in Egypt, exploring the beautiful mountains of Vancouver, and sightseeing in New York City while visiting Friday prayer in Brooklyn, are a few of the adventures that Al-Taqwa students have enjoyed.
Students are encouraged to get involved in clubs and activities. Our clubs vary upon the interest of the students and have a large impact on the school and the community at large. Students are given leadership opportunities and chances to initiate and join activities and events in school to keep the Taqwa spirit going.
Some of the amazing clubs that Al-Taqwa offers-
Student Council, Al-Taqwa Gives Back, Reach for the Top Trivia Club, Model United Nations,
Key Club, Sports Clubs, and more…
Our students participate and compete in city wide tournaments and competitions. They are involved in inter-facility leagues with track and field, swimming, soccer, etc. In addition to in-school activities, students are encouraged to participate in city-wide activities and extra-curricular activities that promote a healthy lifestyle.
YES, Al-Taqwa Secondary School offers and exceeds the Ontario Curriculum for Secondary School with higher expectations and standards. All courses that Al-Taqwa offers are a part of the Ontario Secondary School curriculum and work towards an Ontario Secondary School Diploma or Certificate. All subjects are offered like Mathematics, Sciences, Social Sciences, Business, Technologies, and more. Al-Taqwa is a private, non-profit school that values its enhanced curriculum while enriched by work ethic, encouragement, faith, technology, and athletics. Students explore a religious life style that is experienced throughout the school day. Our classroom sizes have a smaller student to teacher ratio, allowing for more focus on individual needs.
Our students have extensive opportunities to participate in extra-curricular activities, including swimming, track-and-field, sports, arts, field trips, community service, special events, various clubs, and more. "My time at Al-Taqwa Islamic School has equipped me with the right skills and mindset to succeed in my studies! Al-Taqwa's extra courses helped me graduate at 16 years old to pursue higher education. Mrs. Siham had always done her best to provide a balanced atmosphere through teaching both Arabic and Islamic education while also enriching us with the knowledge we needed for college/university."
“You want to know the truth about my experience at Al-Taqwa? It was the BEST two years of my LIFE.”
“Al-Taqwa was the first important steppingstone in shaping the individual I am today. It was a positive and unforgettable experience where I learned the most about who I am and what I desire to achieve in life. It was a relaxed environment which really made learning an ease and enjoyable, and as a result helped me succeed in my studies and push me to learn more. I also met some of the best people I've met in my life, which I'm lucky to still be in touch with till this day. Al-Taqwa will always feel like a second home to me.”
“Al-Taqwa helped me start the journey I had planned for my future career as it walked me through major milestones by introducing me to the different aspects of the Canadian culture while maintaining a great Islamic atmosphere in which I can learn, sharpen my skills, discover my abilities, and get closer to Allah (SWT).”
Alhamdulillah’s for receiving the blessing to attend Al-Taqwa Secondary School to begin my career towards university and my life-long goals. Al-Taqwa has prepared me academically, socially, and spiritually and has played a crucial role towards the individual I am today. The school has taught me vast knowledge throughout academics as well as building closer bonds with my sisters in Islam. After graduating from Al-Taqwa, I have gained a stronger self-esteem, self-confidence, and self-efficacy. I have been prepared to leave a school with a small community and close relationships with students, teachers, and staff to a university with a bigger community. I have been prepared to find my roads academically and spiritually amongst being surrounded by thousands of students at university. I have learned the strength, honour, pride, appreciation, beauty, and wisdom in my religion and I thank Allah SWT for allowing me to attend Al-Taqwa Secondary School which has helped shape me in preparation for boundless ambitions for a rewarding academic and spiritual career.
“I am so glad I met Mr. Saad; he made me realize that I have to follow my dreams and try to achieve them all. He made me love Math and Science and helped me think logically”
“When I reflect on my accomplishments, I always recall those important elementary and high school years at Al-Taqwa. I am so blessed to have had the opportunity to learn and grow in such a nurturing and supporting environment. By having the opportunity to complete my high school years by the age of 16, I was able to get a head start on my options in University. Everywhere I went I was always the youngest, but that wasn't a setback, it was definitely an advantage in many ways. Being the youngest teacher candidate at Althouse, and as a teacher now, I always felt the need to be the best and to hold a positive image about Muslim women. Al-Taqwa gave me the tools I needed to become an independent, ambitious, and a strong Muslim woman.”
“
“If I was re-given the chance to go to a different high school, I would choose Al-Taqwa every time.”
